Video games have come a long way since the days of poorly rendered pixels on a linear plane. Gone are the days of your three disk final fantasy games. Now we spend hours downloading however many games that we can fit on our hard drive and constantly clearing space for the next big adventure. But the side scrolling pixel paradise has made a resurgence in the 3D digital download world we now live in. With many amazing indie artist producing top tier product, it is easy to find our way back to our roots.

Not every indie game is poorly rendered these days, making that side scrolling game feel all the more vibrant and alluring. For those of us who enjoyed that poorly rendered feel there are tons of those options too! The best part is, these games don't take hours to download, take less space overall, offering a larger library of ready to play games with a lot less hardware and time consumed. Of course there are those AAA titles no one can resist. The Mario's and Warcrafts of the world will always hold a special place in many of our hearts. But the future of gaming appears to be the past... but like on steroids or something.
There has never been a better time in video game history for those who enjoy 2D games. There are nearly endless options out there with multiple new games being released daily by indie artist. Releasing games they spent not just time on, but poured their souls into. So check out some of those indie artist on whatever platform you enjoy gaming on and get back to the roots of gaming.
